OPTIONS

To open the options panel, Go to the Menu, Tools, and Options. To change skins on eTomi, go to Menu, View, Apply Themes.

  • SAVING
  • At setup, eTomi prompted you to designate the location of your Shared Directory. This window allows you to change it at any time. You may also use the default setting which is usually within the eTomi application folder. You can also find the "Incomplete" directory in the eTomi application folder. To designate the length of time these incompletely downloaded files should stay on your computer, change the "Days to Keep Incomplete Files" option. The default length of time is one week.

  • SHARING

You can share more than one folder by adding the folder to your Shared list in Library. WARNING: Do not share your entire hard drive or your whole computer may be exposed. Only share files which you want anyone in the world to see. You can also restrict certain file types from being shared by your computer. For example, if all you want to share are the JPEGs in a particular folder, “.jpg”, “.jpeg” should be the only file extensions that appear on the Shared Extensions line.

  • SPEED

The Speed window allows you to set connection speed and "Ultrapeer" capabilities. For instance, if you changed your ISP from dialup to DSL, you can change your settings here. Connection speed is simply how fast your connection is to the internet. If you are using a dialup connection, you should choose Modem. The Ultrapeer switch only applies to those with very high speed internet connections. An Ultrapeer is a non-firewalled, high-capacity servent that shields "leaf nodes" from the majority of messaging traffic. Ultrapeers typically have six connections to other ultrapeers and 75 leaf connections. In layman terms, an Ultrapeer allows other users with slower bandwidth to have a better experience searching and downloading on the Gnutella network. This technology reduces bandwidth requirements for most users, but increases the requirement for the "Ultrapeer" himself.

  • DOWNLOADS

Maximum Downloads allows you to set how many files you can download simultaneously. If you try to download a number of files exceeding this limit, your downloads will be queued until downloads are completed. Clear Downloads allows you to choose whether or not to automatically clear downloads that have completed. If unchecked, you will need to press the “Clear Inactive” button in your Downloads panel to clear the completed downloads.

  • UPLOADS

    Basic

Clear Uploads allows you to choose whether or not to automatically clear uploads that have completed in your Monitor window. Upload Bandwidth sets the percentage of your bandwith you want to allocate to other hosts downloading files from you. If you would rather not allow any uploads, you can turn percentage to zero or unshare your Shared directory. Slots

Uploads per person limits the amount of files a single host can download from your computer. Limiting the number allows for distribution of your bandwidth for uploads by more than one user at the same time. Start Upload Slots

This number sets the least amount of uploads until bandwidth is no longer available and eTomi can no longer allow uploads. The default number is 5 uploads. In the event that bandwidth usage is maxed out, the user trying to upload will either see “Busy” or “Queued”, depending on how many other users are trying to download that particular file. Max Upload Slots

This number sets the maximum amount of simultaneous uploads that are allowed. The default number is set to 6.

  • CONNECTIONS

You can choose whether or not to automatically connect to the network when eTomi starts up. It is recommended you connect on Startup.

  • SHUTDOWN

eTomi is set up by default to minimize to the System Tray when you close the program. You can choose to Shutdown immediately and prematurely terminate other users’ uploads and your own downloads. You can choose to Shutdown only after all uploads and downloads are complete. You can also choose to never Shutdown and keep the program running, sharing your bandwidth and your files as long as your computer is turned on. We highly recommend you leave eTomi running, especially if you have a fast connection.

  • CHAT

If you would rather not be disturbed by other users with chat requests, you can turn it off here.

  • PLAYER

eTomi comes equipped with a media player so you can manage and execute your files with ease. However, if you have another preferred MP3 player, you can designate that player to open the file when you click the “Launch” button on the interface.

  • VIEW – POPUPS

You can choose to redisplay the messages for which you have chosen 'Do not display this messsage again' or 'Always use this answer'.

  • VIEW - AUTOCOMPLETE TEXT

You can choose to enable or disable the autocompletion of text fields used in eTomi.

  • VIEW – ROW STRIPES

You can turn alternating row color in the search window on or off here.

  • SEARCHING – LIMIT

You can set the maximum number of simultaneous searches you can perform. We recommend that you keep this number to 5 or less because excessive searches will hurt the health of the gnutella network and because everyone to have a slower experience.

  • SEARCHING - QUALITY

You can select the “quality” of search results to display. Four star results indicate that the host returning the result is not firewalled and has free upload slots.

  • SEARCHING – SPEED

You can select the minimum speed of search results to display. If you have a fast connection, you may want to limit your search results to hosts with fast connections. However, if you are on modem, you may want to see all speeds.

  • FILTERS – KEYWORDS

You can filter search results by adding any word to the list shown here. Any result containing a word in the filter list will not be returned to you. You can also filter out Adult Content, .html or .htm files or .vbs files.

  • FILTER – HOSTS

You can ban messages from specific hosts by adding their location address to this list. This feature is helpful if you would like to ban IP addresses who fake search results. With the “Allow Hosts” feature, you can allow IP addresses which you designated as banned. For example, if you banned “254.168.*.*”, and you want to allow IP “254.168.10.12”, you should add 254.168.10.12 to your allow list. Any other IPs from “254.168.*.*” will still be banned.

  • ADVANCED-COMPRESSION

eTomi now has the ability to compress the messages sent over the Gnutella network. Traffic compression will reduce the bandwidth used, but may also increase the CPU burden. If your computer is acting much slower than normal, try disabling the compression options.

  • ADVANCED – PREFERENCING

A “freeloader” is a host which downloads but doesn’t share any files. eTomi gives you the choice of defining what makes a host a “freeloader” and whether that host will be able to connect to you.

  • ADVANCED – PORT

The Gnutella Network uses port 6346 by default. If you are running more than one Gnutella client, you will encounter a port conflict. You can change the port used by eTomi to resolve the conflict.

  • ADVANCED – FIREWALLS

If you are behind a firewall, you can force your IP address to connect to other Gnutella clients. You must figure out your IP address and port used to connect to the Network.

  • ADVANCED – SYSTEM STARTUP

You can have eTomi startup every time your computer boots. You can also turn off this feature here.
