Frequently Asked Questions - MediaPlayer

Why does eTomi crash when I play videos?

eTomi may crash because you don't have the proper codecs/filters installed to play the file, or they are improperly installed. If this is the case, remove existing codec packages (such as Nimo) and download the Tsunami Codec & Filter Pack (11.40 MB). It should work well for playing back almost every media file you have (except Real and Quicktime).

Try the full version (15.69 MB) if you still have troubles.

What is the difference between Preview and Preview Copy? (Power Mode)

Regular previewing plays from the file directly, which may cause some problems. 'Preview Copy' creates a new file from the data that you already downloaded and plays from that file. It is recommended that you use 'Preview Copy' for video files.

Is there any way to control the eTomi media player without having it in focus? (Power Mode)

Yes, you can control eTomi in the system tray, or by clicking Window > Show Remote.

I don't want to use eTomi to play my files, how do I play with my default player?

Tools > eTomi Settings... > General > Media Player

You can remove file types from the list or completely avoid using SMP ( eTomi Media Player) by unchecking the top two options.

What are .ogg files and why can't I play them?

Ogg Vorbis is a completely open, patent-free, professional audio encoding and streaming technology with all the benefits of Open Source. To play these media files in MMP ( eTomi Media Player) you will need a decoder because the format is not currently supported by Microsoft. You can download the Tobias' DirectShow Filters for Ogg Vorbis (464 KB) if you haven't already installed the Tsunami Codec & Filter Pack. Once installed go to

Tools > eTomi Settings > General > Media Player

and add "ogg" to the list of file types.
