What is a URI?
A URI is basically a term often used to reference links on P2P networks. A URI usually includes data that is used to identify a file exactly, like a CRC check. Many programs, including eTomi, use these links to find files. There are different types of URIs for different p2p networks. For example, eTomi primarily supports MAGNET links, ed2k links, gnutella links.
What is a MAGNET link?
MAGNET links are used to integrate websites with programs such as eTomi. More information about them can be found at the MAGNET-URI Project site. MAGNET links contain info on files located on the Gnutella2 network.
What are eDonkey and Gnutella links?
An eDonkey link is very similar to a MAGNET, but it instead provides links to files on the eDonkey2000 network. Gnutella links provide links on the Gnutella network.
Where can I find sites using these type of links?
There are a number of sites currently using MAGNET links, and more appear all the time. For example, you can check out Gamephilez for computer game related content. (Patches, mods, etc)
Why don't P2P (Torrent, ed2k, MAGNET or Gnutella) links open up in eTomi?
Other programs may "steal" priority for the links. To have eTomi open up these links go to
Tools > eTomi Settings > General > Web
Put a check mark next to each link that you want to have eTomi handle.
Why don't MAGNET or eD2k links work with Opera?
Opera fixed a bug in their MAGNET support in version v7.2.0 (Beta 2). Versions before this will have problems, so you should update your browser if you run in to trouble.
