Does eTomi have an adult filter?
Yes and No. You can download a security file that blocks certain search terms, ones you wouldn't want your kid to see. It however is not password protected and a tech savvy child may be able to remove the filter.
Is eTomi safe?
eTomi itself is 100% legal and if you use it for purposes that abide the law, you will never have a problem. However, many people use peer to peer software to download and distribute copyrighted material, which may be a copyright violation. Because of that, we make no guarantees that you won't get caught.
Can I do anything to protect myself from companies such as the RIAA and MPAA?
While we don't recommend sharing anything that would get you in trouble, you can use IP blocker such as the one from MP3GUARD: this application will block your IP and is a useful tool for security.
If I don't allow people to browse my files, is it safer?
There is debate about whether or not this is more secure. As long as you are sharing, downloading or uploading files, it is possible for others to determine some of the files you have, regardless of whether you allow browsing. Leaving browsing on does create a more community driven network.
Can I catch a virus from using eTomi?
Viruses are most commonly contained in files that pretend to be applications. It is possible that someone is sharing files that contain a virus. Be careful when you download and always scan files with a virus scanner. An easy to use anti-virus program such as AVForce Internet Armour is recommended if you don't currently have any antivirus software. You can download a copy of AVForce Internet Armour. Whatever anti-virus software you use, please keep it up to date.
Can hackers break into my computer?
eTomi only permits people to download the files you specify, and does not let them make any changes to your computer. Regardless of what program you're using, it's a good idea to stay up to date on Microsoft's "critical" (security) updates if you're going to be online. Make sure you never share your entire C:\ drive which may contain all your private documents etc...
