Troubleshoot - Misconceptions

My download goes backward!

What's up with my download?

The more you download, the more your download percentage grows. To make sure you don't get corrupt chunks, eTomi makes a hash test for every bit downloaded and will detect bad chunks. If eTomi finds a corrupt chunk, it will delete it and try to download that part again. This will cause the Download percentage to go down a bit.

There is a line at the bottom of the progress bar, which shows the current verification status. The green parts have been found to be correct. If you get red parts on this line, then eTomi has detected bad chunks and will re-download them.

If this happens, is my file still OK?

Of course. eTomi makes sure that the download is good before finishing and automatically re-downloads bad chunks. Kazaa, and similar software, do not do this, resulting in numerous corrupt downloads.

But my Download keeps erasing and re-downloading all the time! Why?

It's possible that eTomi downloads the same corrupt parts from the same source again and again. If this is the case, you might want to try to identify the bad source by watching which part is downloaded from which source (by looking at the colors). This may be a bit difficult to see, but if you happen to identify a source giving away bad data, then right click it and select Forget. Also you might want to add a ban for the offending IP in the security window (type F7).

It's also possible that eTomi made an error in judgment. But don't worry, new advanced features make fixing this a snap.

  • First, make sure you are in 'Power Mode'. (Menu View > Power Mode)
  • Right click on your download and enter the Advanced Edit Panel (Advanced > Advanced Edit).
  • Under 'Actions' click on 'Forget Current Verification Status (and Reverify)'. Click 'Yes' at the next dialog.
  • eTomi will reset it's verification data and try to reverify the file.

Last but not least, always update to the newest versions of eTomi to get the latest bug fixes and improvements.
